Broken Audio is best described as breaks in the conversation where no sound can be heard by either one or both parties.

Tips For Resolving Broken Audio

  • Ensure there are no file sharing programs, P2P or large downloads running on a computer located on the same local area network (a computer within your house that is also connected to your router) These activities can use up most of the bandwidth causing the VoIP to encounter problems.
  • You may need to port forward your router to allow VoIP calls to pass through to your ATA. Click here to learn about port forwarding.
  • Restart all of the devices on the network, including any ATA’s, routers/switches and DSL/cable modems. To restart these devices simply unplug the power supply for 10 seconds then plug the power supply back in.
  • Ensure the ATA is in a well ventilated area and not over heating. An ATA that is over heating will be very hot to the touch.
  • Connect the ATA directly to the cable/DSL modem, if it is not already. If this helps the audio quality, then the problem is occurring with a device between the ATA and the modem (such as a router or switch).
  • If you have a wireless Modem try turning off the wireless function and see if this resolves the issue.
